Are we on the path of self-destruction—is that the end fated or any hope?

8 What has gone wrong with us? Why can’t we see the writing on the wall? Why this dreadful apathy and indifference to the highly explosive situation, which might take us actually back to the Stone Age or haven’t some parts of our land already landed into the Stone Age?

Swat was the only region on which the Creator has been ever gracious and benevolent regarding natural beauty and serenity. This realm of beauty and serenity is situated to the north of Pakistan in Hindukush mountain range and has been the abode of several ancient cultures. Apart from its historical significance, the valley of Swat was reputed all over the globe for its fascinating landscapes, crystal clear water torrents, diverse flora and fauna, hospitality, ancient relics and mesmerizing lakes, which attracted innumerable number of diverse nature lovers from all over the world.

Swat is no more the Switzerland of the East. The lush green valley and the historical sites, which attracted tourists from all across the world, is now most dreaded and feared in this part of the world. It’s now a ‘no go’ area for foreigners nay for anyone who is not akin to their way of life---their Pukhtun code of life, which is now called ‘shariat’.

Maulan Fazlullah with his powerful FM radio has captured Swat since quite some time, where shriat stands enforced. Swat has no more schools, health centres, doctors and hospitals, potable water, sewage system, electricity and even roads---the boon of Pukhtun shriat’ has now finally landed Swat into the dark ages. Almost all the schools have been bombed, burnt and destroyed. It started from the girls school, which later extended to even the boys schools and colleges. The courts under duress and threats closed down, while some lawyers differing had to face firing squads. Slitting of throats of the suspects without giving him any right of self-defence has become a routine. The female folks like goats and other domestic animals herded into the pen. Any woman who dared to defy is stoned to death or burnt with acids making her an example for others to dread.

The process of self-destruction continuing unabated, as the local and national politicians, the civil society, the intelligentsia, the NGOs and others such organizations who could have given a positive check to this madness looked the other way leaving the whole responsibility to the law enforcing agencies (LEAs), which further worst confounded the situation over there. Meanwhile, the innocent people of Swat continued languishing in utter desperation as they are being targeted both from the shariatis and the LEAs---Swat the beautiful valley stand perished and pillaged, while the maulvis rejoicing over the enforcement of their shriat

8 Afghan-Taliban almost captured half of Pakistan's land and now they want to impose their own stone-age Islamic law in this North-West land of Pakistan. I want to ask Pakistan Army, why they let this people with no education of any kind captured North-West land of Pakistan and now they are trying to impose their own law, which they claimed is Islamic law. I want to remind these so-called Mullah's, this is not Islamic law, where you stopped women not to go to school or work. Pakistan Army better get rid-off these so-called Mullahs from face of Pakistan land once for all. Otherwise, get ready to face a big challenge ahead if Pakistan Army don't stop these Taliban from North West land of Pakistan.

8 This is not shariat of Islam, which has been enforced in Swat. This is the shariat revealed by devils’ representatives on earth. Islam is the religion of education, technical know-how, development and progress. Holy Prophet Mohammad (saww) taught his daughter Hadrat Fatima (a.s.) and Imam Mohammad Al Baqir (a.s.) established first universal education university in Madina Al Munawwara.
These devils are giving a very wrong signal about the religion of Islam and are bent to self-destruction of whole nation who in the coming years will be begging on the streets without education.

8 Since majority of Pakistanis are born as Muslims and have had no problem in mingling with non- Muslim countrymen, which is an imperative way of practical, progressive and decent pattern of life, but now unfortunately, whilst Swat is being swallowed by the extremists to turn into shariat dominated system it would tarnish the image as a moderate nation as well as shall cause serious damage to the national economy by daunting tourists to visit and rejoice out of the nature filled valley, which is on the path of self-destruction—it is definitely end fated and only hope is, if the army could eradicate this menace before it spreads out of Swat and God forbid engulfs my entire homeland!

SAINTCUTE

8 The road to self-destruction is when the majority accepts tyranny, oppression and accept injustice as just and fair. Governments, who allow intolerable burdens to be placed on its citizens without relief---societies that allow moral degradation and corruption to go unchecked. Corrupt and depraved leaderships are elected or selected because a minority tries to substitute anarchy for the rule of law. We all know that supreme law is the law of "Allah" yet the masses are silent spectators, whilst the yazids of this country continue to drive Pakistan to the abyss that has sides so steep and slippery that once the foothold is lost, then the only way is down.

The age old activities of politicians, the bureaucrats and corrupt officials have once again allowed those groups and families, who consider Pakistan to be their inheritance and the Pakistani people to be the own servants to propagate the next generation of dictators the Zadari clan brother, sisters the Sharif dynasty these are the new comers with no background history of struggle, the struggle of the Bhuttos has been capitalized on by Zadari, the Sharif legacy is from the Zia ul Haq regime. These employ all greed and moral depravity and the many others who claim to be true patriots.

Without the right of every man woman and child being recognized, then Qyamaat is nearer than we think. Allah in his greatness and unbound wisdom created Pakistan as a beacon for justice. The sacrifice of the Grandson of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh on the plain of Kabala show that corrupt tyrannical leadership cannot be accepted or tolerated by any Momin or Muslim this includes the anti-Islamic actions of the Taliban who appear to be trying to rewrite Islamic Fiqa.

8 It appears that the disintegration of Pakistan has begun and the West has nothing to do with it. The West had been warning Pakistan about the forces that are perpetrating this division. The Pakistani leaders had their priorities twisted. Where is the lawyers group that was rallying the people in favor of a questionable person, while the country is being swallowed by the destructive forces from within. Mullahs have been very successful in convincing Pakistanis that the US is scheming to dismantle their country, while they were busy laying down the foundation to do just that.

Maqbool Qurashi

8 The people of Pakistan have now been told that the way to get the government to pay heed to their problems is not through the ballot box, courts, peaceful protests or highlighting them through the media. No sir! "Dandaey ka zor" gets you immediate results: if you have guns, money, and a group of criminals willing to terrorize your fellow citizens, you can get to rule whichever part of Pakistan you choose to terrorize- because the government, elected by its peaceful citizens, is willing to forget about its obligations to its voters and instead submit to the ‘danda’ holders, who did not even vote for them.

We are now to be governed by bands of criminals with financial backers, not by the politicians (sorry figures though they may be) who we voted in. It is time to call a spade a spade. These criminals, who kill and maim innocents, terrorize the defenceless and sell their services to whoever pay them more is not the model of Islamic practice that we aspire to.

8 Water will find its own level. When that moron Mush dragged the country into somebody else' war, saner elements had visualized the catastrophic end of it. FATA was peaceful and stood sentinel duties protecting our Western borders. Their own Jirga system with some conservative Islamic strictures mixed in good measure, was business as usual. Under foreign promptings, the mad Mush toyed with the idea of "Enlightened Islam". The broad based effect of it all was that mixed Basant parties, Dandiyas, dances and youthful frolicking between boys and girls joined by silver screen stars from India and Pakistan at public places became norms of a 'progressive' society. Gradually, the 'Islamic' notion and nomenclature from 'Islamic Republic of Pakistan' was erased. This fits the concept of 'Global Village' the world was heading to.

Secular states, freedom from social taboos, single parents, social engineering, elevating prostitution to profession and conformity to 'hedonistic' patterns of comfort and congeniality in consonance with democratic equality became an order of the day. One has to stop a moment and ponder that Islam was spreading by leaps and bounds in all parts of the globe, which rattled the crusaders and going by the popular saying 'if you can't beat them, join them' - they are making inroads into a religion of 'Peace' which teaches tolerance and sympathy for the unprivileged. The most enlightened religion that uplifted the women status from 'secondary' to equality with men, is being tarnished with imposition of bans or barriers on girls' education. The distinction Islam had over other religions, that it never created 'pontiffs or cardinals' to exploit the unwary in the name of religion. Islam enjoined every Muslim to exercise utmost responsibility over his own acts as well as the acts of others in his control. The only yardstick to distinguish one's eminence over the other was "Taqwa" - fear of God and adherence to righteous path. In this context, the emergence of 'Mullah' is a subterfuge to malign the purity and perfection of that great religion "Islam".

In Islam there is no concept of "suicidal bombers". A weak party has always used this tactical weapon an act of extreme desperation to make a strong impression on its formidable enemy. Sri Lankan breakaway rebels used it with telling effect on the govt. forces. Intifada and Arab risings against continued Israeli occupation used it as rigorous reprisals. Brutal and barbaric aerial bombardment with colossal damages to life and property infuriated those tribal who are a martial race and renowned for their resilience to subjugation. Bombarded by Allied forces and betrayed by their own compatriots, they have adopted a course of intransigence, which is suicidal and self-destructing.

Force is and never has been a solution to such political problems. Dialogue and discussion, which are the primary tools of resolving differences and distractions, are held in abeyance on foreign duress to insure the festering wounds never healed and the turmoil trails the bloodbath of innocent lives. The end-game is pretty obvious and discernible to those who have an insight of reality to the scheme of things shaping up on our western borders. While India was amassing its troops on our Eastern borders, we were forced to maintain maximum forces on our western borders to fight a foreign WoT where the stakes were very high for the Allied forces. However, the Agreement in Swat to bring in peace and tranquility to the region is a right step in the right direction. If the local population finds "Shariat" courts best bet to govern their personal and social disorders, so be it!! The mayhem had to stop first. Once the vestiges of oppression and opposition to govt. writ simmers down, the law of the land gradually takes its own precedence. And there is hope that the people would see the futility and farce of those misguided Mullahs, who went berserk to exploit religion for their own benefits.

8 To stop Afghan-Taliban who are advancing and capturing our land and tying to impose stone-age so-called Islamic Law in our country-Pakistan, I personally appeal all Pakistanis please open your eyes and ear and stop these so-called backward Mullah's from the face of Pakistani land. I urge, Pakistan central and provincial government officials and Pakistan Army personnel to drive out these Taliban from each corner of our land and send them back to Afghanistan without any delay. Taliban are great danger to our freedom and security, each Pakistanis must play their roll and get rid-off these so- called Mullahs with no knowledge of Islam and importance of education at all. Currently, Taliban can be seen in all major cities of Pakistan such as Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta and Peshawer.

8 When nations refuse to move forward with time then either they rot or self-destruct. This is precisely the problem facing Pakistan. The question is what is this infighting about? What is this Talibanization? Is it based on religion, culture or politics? What does this group want? What is our Government doing to contain this problem? Why is there no effort to separate Islam from the Taliban phenomena? The Muslims forget time and time again is that Islam is a very modern scientific religion with a strong code of ethics, but you have to separate it from your local cultural traditions to get the true essence of Islam. What kept Islamic empires to decay was the fact that while the Europeans took the data and knowledge from Muslim scholars of 11th and 12th centuries and moved into modern industrial age, the Muslim empires because of their backward and restrictive practices rotted away and lost out. The same is true today. The greed, the corruption, the dishonesty and whatever else is bad in the society have not got its roots in modernity or westernization. In fact these very attributes are considered bad in the western society as well. We have lost our way on a large scale and we are not going to find the right direction unless we instill good values into our society based on honesty loyalty and unity. The sooner we set ourselves on this path the better and Islam will be forever our guiding light. But we have to follow it with our hearts and minds and just not use it as a tool to fool others.

8 When cancer spreads in a body, then it is very difficult to save a life. Pakistani nation is a dumb-headed fool, which selected corrupt people and now lives with this illiterate government. Kamal Ata Turk sensed and removed that cancer once for all. These so- called Taliban do not even know what Sharia is and these ugly looking mullahs from swat are none other than employee on CIA payroll, who are getting money from sources even the angel of God do not even know. It is awful to read that a powerful nuclear- armed Pakistan is bowing before these bunch of stupid mullahs.

8 Pakistan has succumbed to Taliban in the hope of establishing Government’s writ in the Frontier areas. Alas, this agreement will only embolden Taliban. They are probably already planning to invade other neighbouring areas of Swat. I believe no knowledgeable Muslim in the world, much less in Pakistan, believes that Taliban’s interpretation of Shariah has any validity. By making Pakistan to agree to Shariah law, Taliban and their supporters have actually legitimized their rule on Pakistan’s territories and derived the right to dispense “justice” by their self-appointed qazis. It is a foregone conclusion that henceforth no girls’ school will be allowed, no woman will be allowed to go out of home without male escort, and dark ages will descend on the hapless population, all in the name of shariah.

The situation Pakistan is facing is, of course, a result of sixty years of neglect and selfishness of the ruling classes, who denied nation’s children modern education, but let madrassahs flourish. The real tragedy is that education in Pakistan is still disdained. Shaheed Bhutto nationalized private schools and as a result, destroyed a significant segment of educational sector that was at least performing, better than the public sector. When late Benazir became Prime Minister, all ‘nai roshni’ adult literacy classes, that were making some headway under the leadership of the ex-Prime Minister Junejo, were disbanded. Policies of the current government are no different. Almost soon after taking reins, new government demolished the National Commission for Human Development, which was somehow expanding basic education and literacy in Pakistan. To top it off, more recently, government has pulled the proverbial rug from under the Higher Education Commission.

Is there any hope for any education in Pakistan, except for the few who can pay heavy fees? Not really. However, it will be unfair to blame the political party in power alone. Lack of commitment to education has been the hallmark of almost all governments during the history of Pakistan. Now as a consequence, millions of young men, mostly uneducated or poorly educated, are roaming around the country, without jobs, and honorable means of living. Will it surprise anyone if hoards of them join any movement that promises them food, shelter and hope for the good life hereafter? So, get ready Pakistan. Demons of ‘jahalat’ are just peeping behind the door. Life will not be the same after they break in, because there will be millions of disenfranchised Pakistanis who will gladly jump on the bandwagon and embrace the invaders. Do nothing Pakistan, let fate take care of it.

8 Where these Taliban came form? How do they say they are Muslims? I find no reason to consider them Muslim. The first revelation on Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) was "IQRA"(Read in the name of Allah). These Talibans have no right to destroy the schools of innocent girls, who go to seek knowledge in the name of Allah. They are not doing any service to Islam. Islam always teaches peace. We have to pray to Allah (SWT) to keep our country, Pakistan in His ‘Hifz-o-Aman’.

8 People have the right to choose what they want to do and how they want to do it. I simply don’t understand why there is so much antagonism regarding Shariah. If people want to have their version of shariah in their area, let it be so. Federation has no legal and moral obligation to tell people what to do and how to do it. Having said that lets make our institutions stronger, provide equal right to women in all sphere of life, open more universities, hospitals and schools. Let the only criteria for getting job should be scholarly qualifications, not religion, caste or creed. Nobody is preventing us from doing this in areas where people want to be moderate Muslims. Sooner or later people in areas who talk about shariah will mould in order to get good jobs and lift their standard of life.

8 It is worse news I have been reading through recent days, but it is not surprise either as Pakistan army failed to fight against handful of militants, who captivated the area. In given situation government had no option but to accept the demand. It is indeed going to ruin the peaceful people of Swat and will indeed impact the image of Islam as well as of Pakistan. It is an unfortunate event. I request all secular people to spread the message of love taught by our religion, but misused by mullahs.

8 After a long time good news has arrived from govt. side by signing peace agreement. I think govt. has taken a brave step for peace in the region. We can say it is according to the people's wishes. Nobody sitting in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or any on other city can think about the problems of that area. Justice is not available in Pakistan, common man needs justice by any means. ANP and Sufi Muhammad must bring peace in the region as per agreement. We must pray to Allah that these people may see peace and their children can get education.

8 The hopeless and hapless people of Pakistan are looking forward for the arrival of the days, when they would be the masters of their own destiny. These are mere hopes because the situation has reached the point from where return to the normal is very difficult if not possible. The situation demands a concerted effort on the part of all the actors of the state, the people, rulers and the army. The looming shadows of drones and the sword of Damocles the US attacks are not the only fears. The non-availability of commodities of life in an agricultural country, the price hike, the law and order situation, the loss of confidence on the part of the people on government all are the issues that need special efforts to deal with. The bad claws of the enemies are pointed towards us and we are closing our eyes like the hunted pigeons. Who will come to rescue us from this situation? All the people of Pakistan should lay heads together to steer clear their beloved country.

8 I want to tell the so-called Muslims of liberal Pakistan that the matter is not of Mullah's and Taliban. It is the matter of ‘Justice’. We are so afraid of America and Western countries that we even can’t think of Jihad. If the people of Swat want Shariat, then what's the problem? Being a Muslim we should appreciate them. And we pray to Al Mighty Allah to bring peace in Swat as well as in Pakistan and positive thinking to those people, who say by tongue they are Muslims, but they do not follow the ways of Islam and Sunnah.

8 Secular circles and people allergic to name of Sharia or Islam are opining vehemently that agreement between Sufi Muhammad and Government of NWFP for enforcement of Sharia or Islamic law in the Swat region is unconstitutional and illegal. Let us examine this stand in the light of constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973. Article 2 of the constitution declares that Islam shall be the state religion. Article 2A of the constitution states that the principles and provisions set out in the Objective Resolution reproduced in the Annex to the constitution are substantive part of the constitution and have effect accordingly. This Objective Resolution as reproduced in the Annex unequivocally declares that Pakistan shall be a state where the Muslims shall be enabled to order their lives in the individual and collective spheres in accordance with the teachings and requirements of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran and Sunnah. These provisions of the constitution clearly casts duty on the representatives of the people of Pakistan that they should take such steps, which should enable the people of Pakistan to order their lives individually and collectively according to teachings of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Viewed in this perspectives the agreement between Therik Nifaz e Sharia Swat and representatives of people of NWFP i.e. Government of NWFP is a step toward enabling the lives of people of Malakand Division to order their lives collectively according to Islamic Sharia. Thus this agreement by no stretch of imagination can be termed unconstitutional or illegal. Keeping in view the ground realties of the Malakand region, we should welcome this agreement for restoring peace and tranquility in that region. We should act according to our national interests and not according to interests of the West or Americans. God forbid if the Government backs out from this agreement, then you cannot stop the Taliban from taking over the reigns of Islamabad.

8 Anger hatred & difference of belief or opinion plays no small role in current judicial or ideological conflicts within country. These conflicts continue due to failure to be with solution because of NRO even after 18 Feb. Otherwise PPP the moderate AWAME party knows the solution is not to use of greater military force, nor to excuse about restoration of Iftekar Choudry, which can only make powerful anti peace hardliners & can create political disturbance in streets. Even after military operations & long march, also dialog is the last choice. So, military operation or any type of violence by hardliners & delay in restoration of free judiciary is in favor of neither rulers nor militants.

Here is an appeal with request that if rulers continue to impose unwanted social, political, and cultural forms upon unwilling majority of people, in Swat or Fata, the attainment of peace is doubtful. So the announcement of imposing NEZAME ADAL is the best choice for peace in swat, same may be imposed in other disturbed areas of Fata to overcome the violence. To convince the World about such deals for peace, restoration of supremacy of Parliament & powerful foreign diplomacy is must.

All patriots & well wishers of Pakistan are with hope & expectations that policy makers will accept the right of common poor public in phases via restoring free judiciary, implementing social justice…… & will satisfy violent people via proper heart-to-heart dialogue, which will not only bring harmony in the country but will add the popularity of PPP & can make the tragic accidental leaders hope for future.

8 yes we will self destruct, when our leader are telling white lies. Mr, Somro has declared that General Musharruf was involved in killing of bitch Benazir. Every stupid person forgets that who benefitted of her killing. General Musharruf lost every thing. Mr Nawaz is bitter. Only the happiest person in the wolrd is the biggest Liar and corrupt person, who is now ruling Pakistan without any election, and without consulting any body.
Yes will self destruct as long as we aknowleg Zardari as the divine leader and his worshipers are true God fearing people not the licking dogs for the ministership.
They are only answerable to to Zardari and not the God. All the ministers that I see are liars and worship to Zardari. They believe they are respectable but I believe they are worshipers of Satan.

8 Sufi Mohamed and Fazlullah are as much products of a derailed political -military machinery as is Altaf Hussain. Peace living Pakistani's will have to live with the terror that these puppets will periodically unleash, just as much as we did with MQM and the Sipahe Sahaba.
In terms of the actions of the band of criminals dubbed "Taliban" they appear to be agents of forces that would like to wipe out Islam- first Pakistan and then other countries (already on the radar) will follow. Their anti-education, anti- rational behavior is absolutely anti-Islamic. They are indeed the hypocrites that the Quran refers to so often, and the Prophet (pbuh) warned against.
