The emotions appear to be highly charged. Fearsome red blood eyes of the workers giving a clarion call to the saner elements, whose numbers though fast diminishing with the passage of time, to come forward and hold a Jirga or Grand Jirga for amicable settlement of the dispute, as the resolving of feuds through any democratic institutions stand meaningless in a society basically a tribal.

This is the moment. Mr. Zardari should prove he has the guts to be a worthy successor of the great leader, Benazir Bhutto, in politics as head of PPP. It's a bit tough, indeed, but he should at least try to serve himself well by building a national consensus, restoring 1973 Constitution and pre-Nov 2008 judiciary. There could be many hurdles in the way, vested interests, self-interest, establishment etc.
But Mr. Zardari, this is the historic moment for you to act. Call an all parties meeting for decisive implementation of Charter of Democracy (BB's dream for Pakistan) and wash your dirty image clean. At the moment you are only adding more and more mud over your profile, which was already too much muddied by the establishment. Stop listening to fair weather friends like Salman Taseer and start trusting foul weather friends like Aitzaz Ahsan. The wheel of history will move on, don't paint yourself as a practicing non-democrat and avoid becoming a symbol of oppression, foul-play and injustice like ugly dictators. As the greatest political thinker of Pakistan, ZAB once said “Statesmen politicians live only to achieve a good place for themselves in history”. Please realize that you are now handing over the historic profile and legacy of Bhutto and her great daughter’s struggle gradually to Nawaz Sharif so conveniently, convincingly and irretrievably. You have done most of that work already, thanks to your fair-weather friends. Still, there is a little time left. Please act now, Mr. Zardari. It's now or never.

Pushing the country into turmoil, chaos and uncertainty is what the Sharif brothers are best at and it is not different this time. President Asif Ali Zardari, following Bhutto Sahab's words "We will build a society in which the old values of greed and advancement will be replaced by a common concern for the welfare of the whole community" and Shaheed Benazir's wish for reconciliation, tried his best to take everyone together but Sharif's greed for power and wish for plundering what remains in our national exchequer resulted in failure of all efforts of reconciliation. Sharifs have never been peaceful and have always remained angry with every political leader. The brain cells, which help us socialize and be flexible, the Sharifs seem to have none. May I say that it is high time leaders like Sharif brothers be tried for harming the country.

The two most corrupt leaders signed a document 3 years ago...famously known as 'charter of democracy' (COD)... the bottom line of that agreement was that the two agreed to share power and wealth of the country and get Mush out, who was on their way to Islamabad that really had nothing to do with common people. Democracy in Pakistan is actually a 'feudal democracy' and not the real democracy. Now when one of the 'leaders' was killed her 'successor', through a 'will' became the chairperson of the party followed by president, what a democratic way. Now, the struggle is to be a sole 'owner' of the country and not to give share of nation's wealth to the other 'partner' as per COD. The other 'leader' who had already invested a lot in the lawyers’ movement and other agitations just as a true businessman what a return with profit and share of power, but he is seeing his investment going in waste. He did not spent money to sit in Raiwind farm. He has nothing to do with judges or rule of law, remember he is the one, who had stormed Supreme Court and in fact Justice Chaudhry is the one, who legalized Mush's takeover of government in 1999.
So the current situation is the power struggle among all the leaders, there is nothing involved as nation's interest or country's future...its all their own future and to make more money before total collapse of the country.
Media has always been irresponsible, not realizing the ground facts and talking about so-called idealism. In general, our nation doesn’t deserve democracy. The reason is, its a feudal system where people vote because of fear not knowing what will happen with their votes. Otherwise, those who buried women alive would not become minister. To become a democratic country, we first need to clean our political system from corrupt and criminal people, implement the rule of law and then hold elections. Otherwise, with present structure we are electing or selecting one criminal over the other. God helps those who help themselves and who are honest, otherwise God punishes those who are ‘Munafiqs.’ The sign of Munafiq is that who breaks promises and tells lies and through democracy our nation has elected the biggest Munafiq as the president of Pakistan, when we elected him, then why are we crying, face it and bear it for 5 years and then another term if country survives as this is what our nation has 'democratically' opted. Don't cry my dear Pakistanis as you elected the present leadership over honest dictatorship, do not regret, as that is what you wanted.

Once again our country is standing at the crossroads and seems like all the avenues are leading to self-destruction. Thanks to the politicians, who once again are innocently claiming that they are saints and blaming all the wrongs are done by the other side, military, India and enemies of Pakistan. Millions of Muslims gave their lives for our beloved Pakistan, but what a waste that our politicians are gang raping, the “motherland” mercilessly. Dear politicians, please leave the land out.

Every new act of govt. futility and stupidity carries with it a benevolent-sounding title. The govt. innocuously announces that it would not unduly suppress the long march and on the other hand, it gives free hand to the LEA (law enforcement agencies) to stall and stop the protest by every means and method possible. Were it not for the Army Chief, who issued strong warning, those desperate jiyalas would have joined forces with their Mafia Inc regimen to enact bloodbath that Karachi has been the unfortunate victim, twice before.
During the past three decades, we have witnessed either of the two major parties (PML and PPP) forming govt. after winning the elections. And every time the apple cart was upset by military intervention - invited or otherwise. The primary bone of contention between the two major political parties, who had joined forces to dethrone madcap Mush, was execution of COD, Murree and Bhurban Declarations to re-instate the depose CJ and others who refused the perverted PCO oath; to stamp out the illegal Reso 57(2) B and other draconian surges of power that the despicable dictator had amassed, illegally and unduly; as also the curse of 17th Amendment. Zaradari notorious for his underhand dealing and his unreliable oaths and promises, distanced himself from those signed Declarations shamelessly professing that those promises are not Hadis. What a cunning and characterless soul the man is cursed with.
NS - having tempered by age and long exile - is not a shade of what he was in the Nineties. BB totally overwhelmed NS when she signed the COD (the Charter of Democracy) and promised to standby NS and his PML to uproot the military intervention from the body politics of Pakistan forever. Autocrat Mush was the nemesis, who had subjected NS to humiliations when he tried to step onto the soil of Pakistan. Those jolts pressed him to lie low and he reconciled to play second fiddle to BB. BB had played her hand well and smartly and mesmerised the West with her charm and eloquence; and resultantly, the US masters imposed on Mush to facilitate BB to play active role in Pakistan politics. NS was, so to say, relegated to second position. Within the short time frame, NS had to make multitude of public appearances to canvass for his party and his candidates. With an antagonist Administration who was all out to frustrate and fail PML (N) and NS; it is a huge compliment to NS that he achieved the complimentary results he did in Punjab, against heavy odds. The untimely death of BB with that ripple effect of sympathy coupled with selective rigging and bogus balloting inflated the fortune of PPP.
With many provincial, religious and ethnic parties boycotting the elections, the 39% of the adult franchise that exercised their voting rights, the results appeared as expected. NS unreservedly accepted the verdict and allowed the major party to form the govt. The glut of broken promises and back-hand dealings broke the back of the partisan spirit and PML (N) was pressed to the precipice.
Even now, despite the rupture and the raving rivalry, the PPP bloke still dreams of en-snaring the hurt and the humiliated Sharif brothers. The catalog of breaches of understandings, broken promises and the systematic undermining of COD left NS with the only option to confront the menacing Frankenstein and nip the evil in the bud. The chamelion Naek, who said one thing in the morning and recounted the same evening was the eminent front-man for the spurious AZ. They stalled the issue of reinstatement of the deposed CJ, Justice Iftikhar M. Chaudhry, until the infamous NRO was processed and passed. Once in safe havens, the culprits found new-found exculpation, an opportunity to revoke all bindings and revel in their nefarious designs. Finally, the Duke of Deceits succeeded in grabbing the safest haven - the Presidency, which was embellished and embroidered with lot of power and privileges that the despicable dictator had arrogated to himself in that post.
The events of Long March and the sit-in would write another chapter for the polity of Pakistan. The govt. is faulty and frail and it is to be seen how it discharges itself and defends itself in the public court. The defections in the govt. and the party bodes ill omen for AZ and his ilk. If the military continues its neutral stance and if the public does no let-up, the govt. is in a fix and in transition.

the same game , a different name unfortunately Pakistani politics are all about power, position and possesions.what is more unfortunate is that neither the people nor the politicians learn a lesson ,every few years everyone chooses to suffer from amnesia. so its become a game of musical chairs for the tested and tried few who decide on a new slogan to pursue the same old agenda , the agenda of greed and avarice, the possessor of the reins as well as the whip! the public longing for a change decide to blind themselves to the wolf in sheep's clothing,it has happened before it will happen again.in 1971 we lost East Pakistan for some stubborn egos, and in the process also lost something even more valuable, our human values. This time again with a nascent democracy barely out of its teething problems, the country is again being attacked not only by terrorists but by the politicians as well .Mr. Zardari decides not to keep his promise (not too unusual for a politician), Mr. Sharif decides that this insult should not go unpunished and this time using the lawyers as a tool decides to make him pay not realising or not caring how much the country will suffer. the lawyers too long being the bystanders might at last have a share in the power game decide not to let go, little realising or perhaps not caring that with so much support from Mr. Sharif's party they have unwittingly been sold to Mr.Sharif's party ,what a pity for being able to stand up to a dictator yet falling into the wily hands of a politician. The sad truth of the whole matter is that when people were being killed ,tortured, dead bodies being desecrated by the thousands in Swat nobody decided to even visit the area this patriotic Mr. Sharif could have visited the area held a few public meetings to reassure the people of Swat,Bajawar etc.he with his millions could have set up relief camps for those displaced in the terror infested areas (the government being incompetent) the opposition could have proved its mettle. or are his politics limited to punjab and personal interest? suppose Mr. sharif had stood aside and given the power reins to some one else in his party , could he not find anyone worthy enough was there no one in his party capable enough other than the brothers(politics should be about ideologies not individuals unfortunately this is what every institution in our country is being reduced to)cant no politician play a constructive role. In our country the opposition lives upto its name opposing each and everything in fact its task seems to be limited to toppling the government its just a show of muscle no one seems to be concerned about the welfare of the country. The poor gullible masses are forever falling victims to sloganeering, the freedom of the press we must not forget came about only in Gen Musharaff's reign true he also tried to curtail it as well but with every freedom comes ,its own responsibility as well. I was watching Geo Channel these last few days and was dismayed to see it being nothing short of a propaganda channel for the opposition with inflammatory songs and rhetoric every few minutes it seemed it too had fallen a victim either to its own perception of power or just a tool of manipulation by some other power. criticism even if non constructive is one thing but blatant bias does not fall into the realm of journalism it is called propaganda and in the hands of the opposition it can be a weapon but in the hands of power it can be an even more dangerous tool as used by the nazi's not too long ago. Let us as a nation be wide awake to any changes, let us a nation not be blinded again by any empty hypocritical sloganeering, let us realise that a leopard will not change its spots, let us vote for the good of the country not because we just cant tolerate anyone in power, let us not vote anyone that has been tried tested and failed let us build a nation on qualified politicians not just feudal, hooligans .let us encourage merit rather than worship money. let us search for the good rather than eat trash out of a golden platter let us build our nation not constantly seek to destroy it dr.mehmoona javad dublin ireland tel 0035312160795

If Nawaz Sharif was Pakistan President today, what he does to defend his government, if Zardari of PPP come to attack his government in Islamabad....? same thing what President Zardari doing today to defend his government against Nawaz Sharif and his party supporters and handful lawyers. To use force against lawlessness in the country, it is prime duty of all government to protect lives and property of each citizens. The way lawlessness carry-out by Mr.Nawaz Sharif and his party supporters along with Qazi Hussain and Imran Khan party supporters and handful and brain-washed lawyers will only take our beloved country-Pakistan into a big disaster that may not be recovered in many years to come. All of these leaders have millions of dollars bank account in overseas bank and these leaders don't care how a common Pakistani may effect with this long-march date set to March, 16th, 2009 in Islamabad. I urge these so called leaders, please for the sake of our country, our freedom, our security, call-off their long-march appeal and discuss their issues on table with President Zardari and Prime Minister Jilani and show the world that Pakistan is a moderate state.

PPP is one political party which is practically rooted very deep and is well liked amongst a huge number of masses. And it will not be wrong to say that its founders and leaders have practically nurtured it on their own blood and flesh. But then comes the widower. The great widower.... who carries the picture of his martyred wife everywhere. Who is exploiting the emotions of millions.... and i can not stop wondering that how he was allowed to become the co- chairman at first place. Please do not be mistaken by my outburst. Sharif baradrans have definitely improved on their speaking skills and dressing sense but they still do not think before they leap. How in the world did they expect any good from president and current Governor ... "after all president sahib spent a good amount of time in jail... with whose blessing".
Democracy can be the best form of Government... but in England or India.... but not in Pakistan. Even though we live in the same sub- continent yet we have different way of thinking. Our elected representatives, once elected and sworn can just do good showman ship. Can someone remind me if the current Government has introduced any of their policies as yet. We need a democratically elected DICTATOR. One who has the popular support. One who can get our nation free of all bradrans and chaudharies and feudals and so called Islamic reformist who are carrying out the worst form of non- islamic atrocities.

All those waging a war of attrition against the existing democratically elected government in their utter hatred and venom blindfolded finding themselves unable to see and likening Zardari with Musharraf are grossly mistaken. The two could not be alike, as the one comes from the middle class, while the other was nourished and nurtured in a feudal rather tribal society, each having its own characteristics diversely opposite to each other. Musharraf would never have dreamt of becoming the ruler of this country, had Nawaz in his Pakistan conquering spree after pulling down one President, one army chief and one chief justice, not ventured into toppling General Musharraf, the then Army chief and met with the tragic mishap. All those years, it was army, which gave the required support to Musharraf and no sooner he doffed his uniform, he fell like a sitting duck against the united onslaughts of the major parties in the country. Rootless Musharraf, having no tribe, no constituency and no political party of his own, today stands chanceless of staging a come back, as such citizens in such a society stand ostracized and alienated.
Zardari unlike an urbanite Musharraf has a feudal and tribal background. Besides, he is the co-chairman of the largest political party having deep roots in Sindh and significant representation in all the four provinces of the country. Unlike Musharraf, he is also an elected President of Pakistan through duly democratic process widely acclaimed within and outside the country.
Repeat performance of deception, deceit, disinformation and trickeries by churning out treacherous stories through media round the clock that proved successful in defacing and decimating Musharraf may not work as fruitful this time, as Zardari is no Musharraf to leave gently rather such base tactics would arouse in him the inherent tribal, who with the entire strength of his tribe would take the marauders head on, no matter how many heads fell, which true to its traditions may continue for years piling up the heads until the jirga or grand jirga is convened for a final settlement, of course, in favour of the party having the upper-hand in the fight. Democracy and the so-called democratic parties stand stark naked—the parliament, the courts and all other civil institutions thrown into the background, while the muscling rivals are about to stage a show giving a true picture of Pakistan to the outside world that how backward and mediaeval society we live in.
Blaming Zardari for break-up of promise seems to have made no appeal to the people, as Nawaz’s track record of breaking promises/agreements/ telling lies were of no secret. Nawaz the remnant of brute General Zia was the first to betray the then Prime Minter, Muhammad Khan Junejo. It was Nawaz, who pioneered the worst horse-trading in the country leaving a history of ‘Changa Manga’ still afresh in the minds of the people. People’s memory may be short, yet most of us have not yet forgotten that all sorts of politically motivated criminal cases heaped on the PPP leaders including Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto, which later necessitated the NRO, were weaved and registered by no other person than the vindictive and revengeful Nawaz. It was Nawaz, who complaining mosquito bites for a week or so in the Attock jail bargained his freedom from Musharraf by signing an agreement to remain in Saudia exile for ten years, which later he kept on denying unabashedly until Saudi Arab intelligence chief showed the agreement to the media in Islamabad about two years ago. But then Nawaz shamelessly changing his stance insisted that the agreement was not for ten, but only for five years and he hasn’t betrayed his generous host the Saudi King and the party in agreement softened Musharraf, who had allowed him to go to London to enquire the welfare of his ailing son under treatment over there and instead he started politicking, holding gorgeous all parties conferences and conspiring in league with highly politicized the then Supreme Court Chief Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar for overthrowing Musharraf. Nawaz signing a ‘Charter of Democracy’ (CoD), which by consensus, had pronounced that no PCO judge would be acceptable and all the political parties would participate in elections and join hands in the parliament as well as in the government to get rid off Musharraf. Keeping up to his traditions of betrayal Nawaz first refused participating in the election and later on condition of getting his hired PCO deposed chief justice Iftikhar restored by tearing every pages of CoD into shreds.
History is replete with such instances of Nawaz’s failings, follies and abhorring betrayals, however, to cut short let Nawaz and his cohorts not underestimate Zardari-led PPP. PPP has a long shining history of fighting for democracy and democratic institutions in the country. Let it be clear to all and sundry that PPP cannot be cowed down and browbeaten by such political drama, theatres and stag-shows pouring plethora of lies and abuses against a party, which has its appeal all over Pakistan and vast majority of the people would not hesitate sacrificing their lives for upholding the vision and ideals that the Shaheed Mohatarman has left in heritage for them.

Is that hold sense, reinstate cj by three words , are they innocent or insane, what will happen to the sea of decisions made by respectful courts after Nov 3rd'2007. The looser (s) would rush to courts to void decisions & another mess bigger than this would thunder whole society. Only way out of it sovereign parliament. Give respect to it, gather senses , don't put weight on selfish desires just bring judges who fall to a category which is called merit, non-biased, honesty, without concious on off syndrome. Eye ball to eye ball is a product of certain quarter of media ,practiced in past (products were "one unit, Bangladesh, martial laws") but in year 2009 presence of free media-a gift by Mushraf-accept or not, again the quarter would not accept this very factor, will become a foolish attempt so better instead of manipulating, conspiring, stop it at this stage. Nawaz, Aitzaz, Zardari should not repeat mistakes otherwise they will be bigger looser with already injured nation.

I am surprised to read some writers in this forum defending Zardari.Do you remember Mr 10 percent??Do you remember he and his wife had secret agreement with dictator Gen Mushharaf to get rid of all the money scam the husband and wife were famous for.Yes he was elected with wide majority but what about election in his own party? Is it democracy to be party chief if your wife has been killed?Have you ever heard that in civilized world even popularly elected leaders had to resign, if they lie or their University Certificate is fake?
If majority is the only fundamental of democracy, then I guess it is right for Punjabis to rule Pakistan. It is also ok for the Pakistan Army to kill and murder balochis, sindhis and MQM followers as it has done in the past. Then it is also ok for Hindus to kill Miuslims in India. After all these Hindus are also elected and have the majority.
The supporters of Zardari please do not forget that prophet Musa,Esa and prophet Muhammad(PBUH) all fought against the injustices of majority rule.Even Imam Hussain fought against a majority rule and gave his life.
Some contributors to this forum and their party had fun and games during the rule of Musharraf, now joining hands with Zardari the fun continues. The blood of Muhajirs killed by Nasirullah Baber of PPP has been betrayed by MQM.If Nawaz Shareef is evil, Zardari is devil. Both have properties and links outside Pakistan. On the final days of Pakistan, they shall catch a flight to Tehran, Dubai, Jeddah or London. We the fools shall keep dancing on the tunes of Bhutto!!Bhutto! or Hamari Jeet Tumhari Jeet, Nawaz Shareef!!

This reflects the mentle level of this nation who just in a jiffy jumps to the conclusion that Marshal Law would be soon imposed. Those who would not obey the orders of the Commander In Chief of the Pakistan Armed Forces would have to pay a heavy price this time.
Those who believe that government could be brought to its knees through unconstitutional means are doing a great harm to this country. I beg to Iftikhar Chaudhry he must resign. Justice would not prevail the way they want to do.
The days are approaching when the urban middle class would pay a very heavy price for its high handedness. They are parasitic and through them demogauages are having their field day.
I hope good sense would prevail and Sharif would re-evaluate his strategy if he wants his party survival. He and his advisers are mistaken about their 86% popularity. It is a dream which would never materialize.
The way Nawaz and his advisors abused Zardari is a sufficient example of their poor upbringing. Money and White hard pressed Clothes with shining skin is not the criteria for the 'ASHRAFIA'.
I hope in this age of knowledge, speed and precision we would not resolve our national issues through TV Talk Shows and in the streets. Sometime and simpleston like me laugh the poor mental level of the TV anchors. We must learn the value of pariliament. Let us come out from Rs.2 roti, free medicines for the poors in the hospitals (just like MNA treatment in the history of this country) and government jobs for the half literates. These half baked intellectuals would take us to no where. We have sucked the blood of the poor in the name of the poor over the past 60 years.
Let us try to think for hard work, courage and patience and reunite for one cause that what is good for this country through concensus and not manipulate through well orchestrated TV propagand. Media is also do a great harm to this country.

The nation is not going to be prosperous through these ridiculous protests and "democratic tribal lords" that control PPP, PML(N + Q) and MQM. The notion that justice "only" brings prosperity to a nation is simply flawed. While justice is important in a civilized society, it is the economy & technology that matters the most. No one, including the media, stresses on real issues of the country. It is better to have a "democratic" dictator lead this country than these high school graduates making a mockery of this nation. These catfights will go on if Zardari, Altaf and the Chaudrys are allowed to run their family businesses.

Projection of a non-issue as a serious issue to the country as well as to nation using the press media is remained a game of our corrupt politician of Jagirdarana system. Today the slogan of independent judiciary does not concerned to a common man. What kind of more independence the judiciary and police needs? Is the judiciary is restricted by any means to judge and decide any case registered/lodged at these court of laws under the country's constitution, laws and regulations? In my opinion, judiciary has powers to that extent that it can runes peoples mandate. Under the power of judiciary a victim of road accident dyes because the peoples afraid of police and judiciary power (tangible lengthy system of justice) do not dear to pick him up to the hospital. In prevailing democracy the legislation somehow have some mandate or representation of people. Out of the democratic government's period of five years peoples have only one day of democrary 'The day they cast their vote' and in the remaining four year and three hundred sixtythree days, the peoples are the only spectators of their fate. Anyhow, assemblies are elected by the peoples but the judiciary is appointed through the rules and regulation created by the legislation, so they are called civil 'servant' and got salaries from the public money. But what they returned to the nation? Frustration, spoiling the stuff of life of the unfortunate persons who comes for seeking justice. If justice is delayed is justice denied, Judiciary has full power and independence to decide or delay a case to a unlimited period. It has a lot of reasons or pretext for delaying. The ground facts and truth is that the human life is made of the running time, the period from the date of his birth to his death so the stuff of life is the running time. The maximum punishment awarded by a court of law, are the 'Sentenced to death or imprisonment of life'. Whereas a person who born has a fate to die, then what punishment is awarding to a criminal. There is no guarantee if a person honorably released from the court of law would not die in the next hours, day or so on. Actually, the court of law, in punishment of hanging till death, is closing the hopes of that person for further life. In imprisonment, criminal is deprived off his basic rights of liberty for that particular period. Isn't true from the date, a case is lodged in a court of law, the stuff of life is destroyed of both the parties whether of complainant or accused by the delaying tactics, and both the parties got much punishment before the decision arrived and deprived off the basic rights of liberty. The timely decision is the only 'JUSTICE' as such they never got justice. In fact except for a few extra-ordinary brains, normal human brain is not capable to retain the total scenario of an event for a long time. Gradually, many parts of that event erased from his brain. So after a particular delay, success of a case depends on the ability of the lawyers but not on the basis of the crime. We nearly all Pakistani claim ourselves to be Muslim and have faith on Allah and Quran and according to Quran we believe that all earth is belongs and own to Allah. When I think and surprised that there is no piece of land of Allah is exist in Pakistan as well as in other countries. Even the mosques are divided into the ownership of different sects. Majority of creature of Allah Human are deprived off from their basic rights of shelter as all the land has been captured by the few wadaras, jagirdars, nawabs etc. thruogh Jagirdarana system using the British laws and regulation which the British made to make us slaves. In the end I earnestly request the judiciary and lawyers to discharge the basic duties entrusted to them and save the Pakistan and the nation from further destruction and frustrations.

The current events demand our active participation as well as earnest prayers from Allah (SWT). I would like everyone to recite the prayer in the last verse of Surah Albaqrah:
"Our Lord do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake, and Our Lord, do not place on us such a burden as You have placed on those before us, and Our Lord, do not make us bear a burden for which we have no strength. And pardon us, and grant us forgiveness, and have mercy on us. You are Our Lord, so then help us against the disbelieving people."
