Nawaz declaring Pakistan a failed state, whose game is he playing? [Issue Date: Monday, December 22, 2008]

8 A state is bound to fail, when its leaders stash all their wealth abroad. With no stakes in Pakistan, they are here only to enjoy and make more money. The day Pakistan is in trouble, they will fly off to their luxurious abodes abroad. Can't we the poor people of Pakistan ban the election of this visiting faculty of corrupt leaders?

8 It is useless to comment on Nawaz Sharif’s statement, for which, he must come out with reasons and explain what he is doing for salvaging the country from the sink. In my opinion, the present crisis in order of priority relates to economy, energy and water crisis. Taliban menace is also related to the economy, distribution of wealth for the creation of a strong middle class without which true democracy unthinkable.

8 Many political parties in Pakistan have never been the breeding grounds for new talent - in particular, PPP - but fiefdoms structured to uphold a family dynasty. It strongly substantiates the compulsion to adopt 'Bhutto' nomenclature for Zardari clan to retain their monopoly on PPP. Also, because the political system is not running on merit, the emergence of new leadership has become very difficult. The Duke of Deceit, AZ, with his cupboard full of skeletons and hands bloodied, has wiggled his way to power. Indeed some may fool some people some of the time, but never all people all the time. If the public is gunning for mid-term elections, it gives the Jiyalas shiver down their spines; as they can clearly see the lurching doom of a fate 'from Presidency to penitentiary'. It is characteristic of desperate people to indulge into irrelevant banter and bromides to evade the topic or the truth. To accuse PML (N) of spreading spins and twists has always been the forte of diehard Jiyalas who excel in the art of falsification and fabrication. Neither PML (N) nor PPP could have singly dislodged the abominable autocrat and the transitory convergence of interests of the two did not last after the event was over. AZ never realized the avowed and stated resolve of BB to re-instate CJ Iftikhar, obviously, to save his skin. The whole Administration comprises of Jiyalas with promises sans performances; more sound bytes than sensible brains. In order to perpetuate their rule, they are shoring up shaky alliances. Shaitan Taseer is busily negotiating with weightless and witless Chaudhries of Gujrat who have turned their guns on their benefactor, Mush, to resuscitate their dying, decrepit, diminutive political existence in death throes. Eventually, the loosely attached group of Quisling League shall have to take fresh bearings and take refuge in re-joining the original and genuine PML of NS. This would swell the majority of PML to stake claim for transition of power in true spirit of democracy. It beats many intelligent people that how could a microscopic minority of minions defame and drag through the mire, a person with 80% popularity rating in the nation. Through the taboo of semantics one could default someone for calling spade a spade, but never censure or criticize culprits for pushing the country to the precipice.

8 We need some injection of optimism, hope, strength, a good optimist leader and a sincere one. We need to see that we are one nation. We have proved it time and again. Allah will help us.

8 Projecting Nawaz as the national hero, yet expressing displeasure over the raging debate on his words and deeds having far reaching implications for the nation and the country, is not only unwarranted, but not the least acceptable. How can one call it divisive and personal, when in the same breathe one claims Nawaz to be most mature knowledgeable leader, whose popularity was recently rated 80 percent in India for having made many such statements foolishly/ knowingly giving credence to the Indian designs and claims.

The latest among them is the recent campaign launched by Nawaz cohorts churning out on daily basis a new story giving air to the imaginary differences brewing up between the PM and the President and creating a perception that the government could collapse any moment with the exit of the PM, Yusuf Raza Gilani, as the President, Asif Ali Zardari is planning to get all powers transferred to the PM slot and assume the premiership himself, while elevating his father Hakim Ali Zardari to the post of President. This campaign again has its origin from the Indian media, which after Mumbai attacks, has especially sharpened its knife stabbing Pakistan interests and blowing all sorts of propaganda such as the democratic government in Pakistan not seeing eye to eye with the military establishments or Zardari striving to sap all powers in his person to become a civilian dictator. India destabilizing Pakistan civilian government in view of its aggressive postures towards Pakistan is understandable, but how come the Nawaz and his coterie of thugs aiming to topple this government at this juncture, when the standoff with India heating up every moment.

8 At the time of inception, Pakistan was named the Islamic State of Pakistan, but over a period of six decades it has been reduced rather termed as the Islamic state of terrorism. The mighty politicians, who claim to be the upholders of peace and prosperity, have unfortunately never risen above the petty and insignificant habit of blaming their counterparts and most of their reign is spent either pointing out the follies of the previous government or beating about the bush. Non-issues have always been issues in the political history of this poor state always denied and deprived of able leaders. Mr. Nawaz Sharif is no exception in this case, as there have been many politicians in the past, who have declared Pakistan either a failing or a failed state. But the fact of the matter is that who is actually responsible for this continuously maligning reputation of our country? Is it the people, the system or the politicians? Only when each and every Pakistani makes a resolution to come together and work on a larger scale for the betterment of the country, the situation can be saved. Let this be our new year resolution to stop holding others responsible and do our own bit for prosperity.

8 We are in dire need of a leader with vision and foresight and a sense of direction. We have seen none in the past 60 years. There are a lot of self-styled this and that politicians without any real agenda for the good of the people. They are all there on the basis of the immense wealth they have accumulated mostly by unfair means and still worse is the fact that this wealth is kept in foreign lands. First and foremost, all the wealth belonging to these elite groups should be brought back into Pakistan and then this wealth should be invested locally to improve the future welfare of the state. Apart from the very ordinary hardworking Pakistanis abroad, which bigwig has shifted his wealth back to their homeland? All we see again and again is Pakistanis going abroad with begging bowls.

Have these politicians no self-respect? It is their antics that have driven the country to ground and they have the audacity to say all sorts of rubbish about their homeland. These politicians can say what they like or do what they like without any regard or thought of how their negative statements and actions can hurt the country and its economy, thus affecting the livelihood of millions of Pakistanis. We have so many questions lurking and so many issues to tackle. There appears to be no sign of any development anywhere. All you hear is the term ‘War on terror’. Does any one not realize that we have even a worse scourge and that is poverty and deprivation? There is an extreme need for more jobs and education. Can we have some of this wealth transferred back into our economy and used sensibly for some sound development projects like power generating plants for instance rather than go begging all over the world. They have done nothing, but bring shame to Pakistan with their extravagant life styles abroad on one hand and a begging bowl in the other hand.

8 External and internal conspiracy against Pakistan abetted by local politicians has brought Pakistan to a critical stage. Unfortunately, democracy/parliamentary system in Pakistan means the bringing of feudal and tribal lords back into power. The country can never progress under these retrogressive and corrupt politicians. The only way for Pakistan to move forward is to have a Turkish style government. Then bring back from the world the Pakistani technocrats into responsible positions to propel the country forward in engineering, science, technology, IT, medicine, space technology, energy production, etc., which is the model Korea, Taiwan, India adopted and propelled their country forward.

The age of mediocrity of the bureaucracy and corrupt politicians should be done away with. Enough is enough. The survival of the country is at stake. WE need to put our best foot forward! Unfortunately, bringing democracy into Pakistan shows that it is but an excuse to destabilize the country and balkanize it. We need 10 years of strong, no- nonsense rule with gradual move to democracy commensurate with the literacy level of the population!

8 I was not expecting a statement so blunt from Mian sahib. Looks like everybody agrees with his statement, but still wants to close eyes like a pigeon or hide it under the rug for now. Yes, one can see his desperation in whatever way one wants to see it, but true. Today’s world is smart, they may talk like ignorant in courtesy, when it comes to Pakistan, but they have figured out Pakistan more than us. So do not worry about the rest of the world. Pakistan's economy cannot become progressive in million years with our current hypocrisy at all levels even if we change names from Musharaf, Zardari, Sharif.

8 Who has made Pakistan failed state? It is politicians like Nawaz Sharif, who commit frauds. To get admission in Army Medical College, he fortunately got his daughter's domicile changed from Punjab to Azad Kashmir and later got her transferred illegally to Lahore.
