 * How Young Generation knock PCB's door in the field of Umpiring,.
It was a dream broken news for me, when I saw the PCB advertisement inviting applications for trainee umpires from candidates of 30-45 years old contrary to the last year’s requirement of 25 years onward.

I think that the best age for trainee umpires and for the new comers like me should be 25 years onward although there is no age bar for an umpire in the international cricket.

I, therefore, request the PCB chief patron, President General Pervez Musharraf to kindly intervene into the matter and get the age limits amended accordingly so that the aspiring youths like me could also avail of the chance.

 * DEFENDING HONOUR OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)
DEFENDING HONOUR OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)

Muslims are protesting against publishing of twelve blasphemous cartoons, which despite severe protests in Muslim countries, has not been removed as yet by Denmark’s largest newspaper Jyllands-Postenthe from its website http://epaper.jp.dk/30-09-2005/demo/JP_04-03.html

The blasphemous cartoons are reprinted three months later in solidarity with the Danish daily newspaper by several other western dailies in the name of “freedom of expression”, that has added fuel to the fire, which in fact, is an expression of the West of extreme hate towards Muslims and their Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Denmark’s daily Jyllands-Postenthe took the lead in publishing the blasphemous cartoons and then other Scandinavian and European countries joined the rat race to uphold their so-called right of freedom of expression. A newspaper from Norway republished the cartoons last month and then it was published in French daily France Soir, Germany's Die Welt, and newspapers from Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

Another continent became involved in the dispute when two newspapers in New Zealand, namely The Dominion Post, Wellington, and The Christchurch Press, both owned by Australia's Fairfax group, reprinted the blasphemous caricatures.

The Secretary General of Council of Europe Terry Davis in his statement has described the violence that accompanied protests across the Muslim world against European blasphemous cartoons as "unacceptable”. Terry Davis has said that "freedom of opinion and expression is protected by European human rights law, even in cases when the views expressed were offensive".

In his opinion, the violence, destruction and hate which marred the protests are totally "unacceptable", as “having the right to cause offence does not make it right to do so”. Terry Davis is confident that they are not supported by the vast majority of people of Islamic faith, regardless of how offended they feel by these caricatures.

The cartoonists and the publishers of the newspapers are the opinion-makers and cannot be termed as responsible citizens of the West when they have intentionally pursued the course of action which was a deliberate act of provocation that has hurt the sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims around the world and has become a possible source of clash between the civilizations.

The newspapers repeatedly published the blasphemous cartoons one after another are totally responsible for the loss of several human lives and destruction of properties during the protests in different countries. If they have not provoked the sentiments of millions of Muslims by publishing the blasphemous cartoons, there would have been no question of demonstrations by the Muslims.

To make clear to the blasphemous cartoonists and the publishers of the newspapers, let me remind them that Jesus Christ (PBUH) was the second-last prophet of Al-Mighty Allah. He foretold the coming of the last Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

I would request the Muslims in the world to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), even in the worst of circumstances and defend the honour of Prophet Muhammad without reacting violently on the blasphemous cartoons, that are published in several newspapers in the West.

Such blasphemous cartoons cannot shake the belief of 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, as Muslims are connected with each other in the world through belief in one Al-Mighty Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as Allah’s last Prophet.

 * Three Tiers of Governance
We are still crawling in democratic infancy. Repeated falls and fears have left us far from a rise. Yet we are experimenting with a ' three tier' form of governance.Repetition of functions without rules of business at each tier, are making a mockery of almost every sphere of activity, leaving us still struggling to find sense of direction.
Unless we decide about the role of each tier of governance, i.e., Central, Provincial and District (Nazimates) with clearly defined schedules, overlapping functions and encroachments in between the tiers would continue to allude progress. What we need is a gradual rise to the true democracy.
In view of our lack of consensus on almost every national issue, as seen on recent Kalabagh Dam issue, one regrets to say that, at least during the period of One Unit, such issue were better understood. That is why national issues like Settlement of Refugees' Property and Water Accord with India were possible. Dams like Mangla and Tarbela were made and resettlement of affectees of those dams and Link Canals in Punjab and Sindh was possible.
There are proposals about dividing Punjab to balance it with other provinces.Such proposals remind us of the British Colonial approach of "divide and rule".Although it appears to give an immediate answer to the present crisis, but without a guarantee that Baluchistan would not ask for a different criteria about its share based upon area, or Sindh would not ask for its share in NFC proportional to the revenue it generates.
Under the circumstances, I would suggest that, the government should make schedules of functions for the Provincial Governments, removing common issues involving natural wealth as no-go areas for the Provinces. Relevant federal Ministries should have stronger controls over those areas, with well defined legislative provisions to give strength for effective control and positive result oriented governance. Newly introduced Third Tier governance of Nazimates to be critically reviewed in the light of failed experiment of Union Councils of Ayub era.

 * SUICIDE OF WOMEN BY FIRE
I would like to express my great concern about the women committing suicide by fire. Why women commit suicide? What is the reason behind this deadly step? Does our law is unable to protect them? Do we discuss this most neglected issue in our national assembly? Why always women are burnt with stove blast? Do we still live in the era of darkness, where people used to set wife on fire with their dead husband and buried their daughters? How can we claim that we did a lot of progress, while this horrible element exists in our country? When they will feel secure in their own houses?

We should leave no stone unturned to eliminate this barbaric factor. Law making assemblies should make some strong laws so that no one dares to set women on fire. In burn cases there should be no need to lodge FIR. Government should conduct inquiries itself and if they find any shadow of doubt, they must go deep into the matter and punish the criminals. We should join hands to secure our women and give them all rights to live happily.
